IMCA Class Rules Finalized and in effect January 1, 2010
Competitors are advised that the IMCA Committee has finalized the M242 Class Rules, which will go into effect January 1, 2010.
The Class Rules are available for review and commentary by competitors here.
Changes have occurred since the last set of draft Rules went into effect March 1, 2009. The following are the Rules that have had updates: 2.5; 3.1; 3.2.12; 3.6.3; 3.7.10;
Appendix B - Keel & Rudder. With regard to the keel and rudder specifications, a sampling was done on approximately 40 boats, including 5 new ones built in the past few years, and the resulting specifications were chosen such that 90% of all keels and rudders fit within the tolerances, including the new ones being built by MG Marine.
As such, competitors are advised to review the new specifications and ensure their boats comply, probably in consultation with their local Measurer, who will have the appropriate measurement tools. Boats which do not comply will have to make modifications to their keels and rudders to fit within the new tolerances, or purchase new ones from MG Marine.
A Measurement Certificate format has also been developed for use by competitors and Fleet Measurers.
Lastly, a Sail Registry Form has also been developed for each competitor to maintain for inspection by a Measurer at any time.
Competitors may provide their comments to: craigs@m242.bc.ca A conversion table for the different measurement systems is available on the M242 website. Please also see the IMCA Constitution, as it contains some governing text re the Class Rules.
