Cal Race Week

Ninety six boats raced this past weekend at Cal Race Week in a weather pattern that was significantly more benign than the conditions dished up on the Santa Monica Bay two weeks ago for the California Cup Regatta. Kellie Fennessy, who chaired the event, had more than 75 volunteers working on three courses each day to provide excellent racing for all.

With light shifty conditions on Saturday, Keith Kraemer and his team seemed to have it all figured out in the first and third races with two bullets.

On Sunday the breeze filled in, more steady and less shifty with apparently less opportunities to pass other boats. It was close, tough racing all day long.

After a somewhat disappointing first race of the day Peter Stazicker’s team, with Billy Peterson at the helm, took a bullet in the second race on Sunday’s program and headed for the trophy platform back at the club with a well deserved first place. Good on you guys, you worked hard!

Mike George’s second place “All In” had two tough races on Saturday, split by a bullet. Way to keep it interesting Mike! With a “Lawrence Welk” 1 and a 2 on Sunday, he redeemed himself, winning the tie-breaker just ahead of Barbara and Yumio’s # 305 who ended up in third place.

The next race is the one design regatta at the SCCYC on July 24 & 25.

I’ll see you on the water!
